The Spring (third) Stage is on! We ask that everyone observe all the safety recommendations when using the parks. The extended period is to allow participants to spread their rides out even more. See Rules page for more info.
The Four Seasons of Horsetooth Mountain Bike Challenge is a grass-roots un-event with no entry fees and no real start times and is ridden on the two solstices and two equinoxes in Horsetooth Mountain Park and Lory State Park. By being required to complete at least three seasonal stages, we hope it encourages you to come ride if your schedule doesn’t permit on any given stage. The course is designed to offer what we think are the best sections of trail in our backyard. The course should take about 2-3 hours. Had fun in the winter? Bring a friend for the spring stage! Don’t own a fancy team kit or 20lb race bike? Neither do we! Come ride for the fun and challenge of completing all four events! Check out the rules in the link below.

Trip 1: April 29 – May 2
Trip 2: May 6 – 9
Registration opens: January 27th
The Kokopelli Trail was built in 1989 by COPMOBA, a small group of committed bikers who envisioned a single contiguous trail stretching from Colorado to Moab, Utah. It was named for Kokopelli, the magical flute player who wandered the desert and was able to drive back winter according to Hopi legend.
Bikerpelli is a series of two identical annual trips in late April/early May travelling the trail in a unique, intense style we’ve refined since 2002, and represents what we believe is the best way for an experienced biker to enjoy the entire trail in a realistic time frame. The idea is simple – we handle all the details & leave you free to ride for 4 days without having to worry about logistics, camps, meals or emergencies. Just show up with a bike, a tent & your toothbrush & we’ll handle the rest.
Without any additional loops, the Kokopelli Trail covers 142 miles total and limited to the first 90 registrants. The route has evolved thru the years to include several addt’l sections of unforgettable riding, and a couple pieces are commonly skipped for being less fun. We have all the inside info on this & our trips are built with rider’s experience in mind.
Rating the trail’s difficulty is a challenge as the terrain can vary widely from serene, meandering 2wd roads to steep, rocky & technical pieces best hiked thru. 95% of the trail is completely ridable by a strong-intermediate rider with average technical skills and a solid base of endurance training.
Still, this is considered a strong-intermediate to advanced ride and is not recommended for beginners.

Ride the Edge!
This is not just the name of the trail but it’s a description of the new Sarlaac Attack 50K course. Uphill grinds, beautiful singletrack and some grueling hike-a-bike sections. You’ll ride on the edge of cliffs and the edge of your endurance limits. This course is tougher than the previous course with 3,400′ of climbing and WAY more rewarding.
Do heights excite you? You’re going to love the namesake section looking down at the start line area. Riding the Edge Loop!
This fun 50K course is an early season test of stamina and gives a reason to train through the winter. With the combination of many short ups and downs and a big climb up the mesa, this event will definitely test your fitness. Racers will have three aid stations and will receive a finisher’s memento and age group awards.
While weather is never a sure thing, typically in the Fruita area at this time of year, you can expect temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees with very little chance of rain.

The Mesa County Health Department informed us that due to the amount of participants coming from outside the area, which is about 95%+ of our racers, they would not be allowing our event or similar events. The area has a low percentage of cases and are concerned about the potential spread of the virus with an influx of visitors. We respect their decision and appreciate informing us in a timely manner.
We want to thank everyone for their patience as will now DEFER all participants of this SOLD OUT event to the new dates in 2021. You do not have to do anything as our Registration Manager will move teams/solos to the 2021 site on imathlete-all links are still good and pertinent dates are being updated. We will begin sending emails after the first of the year reminding you to complete your rosters and providing updates regarding the event. If you are unable to attend the 2021 event we will be happy to extend your deferral to 2022.
And finally, we want to thank our title sponsor, US Bank, our presenting sponsor, the City of Fruita, as well as our venue, Highline Lake State Park for their support during these trying times as they will also return in 2021 for our “REDUX” of the 16th Annual 18 hrs of Fruita and the 25th Anniversary Fruita Fat Tire Festival.t be a minimum of 14 years of age.

Event Details
The Grand Enduro will challenge you on three demanding stages in and around Grand Junction’s Lunch Loops trail system. For those unfamiliar, the nature of these trails is very technical and require expert handling skills as well as solid fitness.
What to expect:
-
Chunky, desert terrain that’s hard on body and equipment – bring sturdy tires and spare tubes!
-
Stages will lose significant elevation, but lack sustained steeps – be ready to pedal! However, this is no XC race, so bring your well equipped all-mountain bike. You’ll hate it on some of the punchy, short climbs but wish you were on an even bigger bike at some points!
-
All stages feature at least a few “moves” – sections of trail that are particularly precarious. Where possible we’ll have go-arounds, however these will generally cost you time! Pre-riding all stages is definitely recommended and required for stages 1 and 3.
-
25-40 minutes of racing over 7.2 miles of trail. 2.5-4 hours of total ride time covering ~23 miles.

Come join us at the Royal Gorge Six and Twelve, just outside of Cañon City, CO! This is a 6- and 12-hour endurance competition that is held at the Royal Gorge Park. This is our first event ever in CO, and we struck the jackpot using Cañon City as a venue. The town is undiscovered, completely supports the event, and there is tons of fun stuff for families to do in the area with the Royal Gorge Bridge just minutes away. Also, did we mention that Cañon City has a professional trail builder who adds new trail all the time? So you know you are going to get some killer riding. This course is an intermediate 9.8 mi. loop that is completely singletrack. Bring your crew and camp for the whole weekend at the Royal Gorge East Ridge Campground, or just come for the race and take in beautiful views of snow-capped peaks and the Arkansas River Gorge while riding. Whatever you choose, we hope to see you in this charming town!

Event Details
For the 2021 Growler, we have introduced two new race courses for Sunday’s event: the 20 mile Pup and the 40 mile Big Bad, featuring the Aberdeen trails for the first time. These categories will be replacing the 2-lap, 64 mile Growler. Change is good, and we heard from many of you over the years about including a shorter distance Growler. And for those still looking for a longer distance challenge, the 40 mile Big Bad features our classic Growler course, with the addition of the Aberdeen loop, Hartman Rocks longest and most backcountry trails.”
25% DISCOUNT FOR ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL RACERS
We’re committed to fostering the next generation of mountain bikers. For 2021, we’re offering a 25% discount to all middle school and high school racers (based on their grade as of fall 2021).
ORIGINAL GROWLER KID’S RACES
ORIGINAL GROWLER KID’S RACES will take place on spectator, family friendly multi-lap courses at the Hartman Rocks base area on Saturday, May 29. While this event is free, we’ll still need you to stop by and sign a waiver before participating. Please visit the “KIDS RACE PAGE” for all the juicy details!
For ten years, the Original Growler has not wavered from our guiding principal of asking you to trade your hard earned dollars for three things:
- An awesome day on the bike. The Growler offers a challenging, singletrack heavy mountain biking experience on some of the finest trails on the planet.
- A killer party. Food, drink and camaraderie, post race, in downtown Gunnison (for those that still have some party left in them!)
- Top shelf trails, both existing and developing. Regardless of where you live, you become a stakeholder in Gunnison area trails as every penny of your entry fee goes directly to the 501c3 not for profit, Gunnison Trails, and Gunnison Trails’ mission is focused solely on improving and expanding area trails.
The Original Growler showcases most of the trails at the Hartman Rocks recreation area on BLM public lands. “Hartman’s,” as we call it, was chosen as one of the top 20 mountain biking destinations on BLM lands and offers a one-of-kind trail riding experience. If you have ridden Hartman’s, you know all about the magic of these high desert trails.
If you haven’t, you owe it to yourself as an experienced mountain biker to test your skills and fitness on the trails at Hartman Rocks. You’ll be forced to alternate relentlessly between fast and flow in seas of sagebrush and tricky and technical through weathered and twisted juniper on islands of granite and in the many micro canyons that pock this primal landscape. While there are no big climbs and the total vertical gain isn’t remarkable, the seesaw nature of the Growler course is a supreme test of all around mountain biking. Go ahead, commit. But be prepared to challenge your mind, your body and your skills.
- Saturday May 29, 2021, The Classic Growler – around 32-miles on the dirt*
(limited to 350 riders) - Sunday May 30, 2021, The Pup – around 20 miles on the dirt*
